Hello there, friends and fans! 
It’s March 31, 2025– and here are some things that happened in the meantime!
This Is The Current State Of Things:
- General News:Last week I attended the “Cohort” workshop at University of the Western Cape, officially as a PhD candidate – and it was a wonderful experience! The workshop was attended by a mix of students doing their masters and PhD’s in religious studies (the academic study of religion) and there were people from across the map – Malawi, Netherlands, Canada, USA, Kenya – and “local yokels” like yours truly!
Of all of them, I was the only one who had received RPL (Recognition for Prior Learning) to get there – which felt intimidating, but it was made clear to me that I had deserved this prestigious accommodation thanks to my prior work in the field (6 papers which contributed to the knowledge base on Satanism and the occult in South Africa). My wiffle Kay keeps pointing out that I tend to not believe in myself or my self-worth, so look at me, Love – here I am, owning this achievement! I was also the first RPL case (at least in terms of Religious Studies, I think) in 25 years at the UWC, so that is a BIG thing – and not just for me! Don’t worry, I won’t let it go to my head!
Anyway, it was an intensive 2 days of constant listening intentively, debating and suggesting to assist our fellow students in their own research fields – and the first day (Tuesday) went on until past 7pm. The second day went to past six. But although tired, it was a good tired. And although fatigued, I left Cape Town on Thursday morning with excitement and determination to make the best of this wonderful opportunity! I was actually too tired to be much concerned about flying – unlike the previous trip on Monday!
The next step is to write a research proposal due for end April – which will set me up for my dissertation/thesis that will likely be due by end 2026 – so I’m going to be a very busy, very anti-social bookworm for a while! I also have to plan and prepare to present one of my papers from several years ago (selected by the powers that are) at the prestigious annual international CESNUR (Centre for the Study of New Religions) conference in Cape Town in November. As a student who has been barely registered (I don’t even have my student card yet!) this is quite a thing! No pressure at all, right?
Anyway, this is a very exciting time for me – and while still holding down a regular job at the same time, and now also having to deal with petty jealousy from some people, and spite as well. Either way, it won’t last forever – it will be over sooner rather than later, and then I can get on with the next phase of my life!

- Current Writing Projects: I’ve been working on the first part of “Flushed” (book 5 in Panic! Horror In Space), but I’ll keep you updated on that as time goes by. That said, with my time now occupied with assignments from varsity, I’ll likely have no time available for writing fiction for the immediate future!
